Steve came to the Killeen area in 1973 when he was assigned to the 2d Armored Division. Over the years he returned to Fort Hood several times, finally retiring in 1995 with the 1st Cavalry Division after 22 years of service. Steve has taught kindergarten, fourth, and fifth grades. He plays an active role in his church. Steve is a former city commisioners of Nolanville.

Nella is native of Italy. She is fluent in Italian, German, English, and conversional in French. She met Steve in Germany, and they have one son, Brian and a daughter, Beth. Nella is also an accomplished artist.
