More college grads getting hired in 2012

Members of the class of 2012 are being offered median starting salaries of $42,659 (up 4.5%) from last year according to a new report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.  Also according to a survey done by the same organization, employers are expected to hire 10.2% more college graduates this year than last year.  However there is a caveat and that is that there is more competition among job applicants than in past years also.  This year employers look at an average of 33 job applications as opposed to the 21 applications, even though they are hiring more college graduates there are also more graduates and other job-seekers to choose from.   The majors in highest demand are in Engineering, Business, Accounting, Computer Science and Economics.  It should also be noted that the median pay is for median starting salaries of all degrees and that some degrees (Education for example) do pay less than the median.
