One step in getting your home ready to sell is to “de-personalize” it. Buying real estate is often an emotional decision, but when selling real estate you need to remove emotion from the equation.
Think of your house as a marketable commodity. Your goal is to get others to see it as their potential home, not yours. Even if you do not conciously make this decision, you can inadvertantly create a situation where it takes longer to sell your property.
The question is of course, how does one de-personalize their home. One way is to make sure that the walls are painted in a neutral color, meaning no bright pink or dark red. As a seller, you cannot assume that buyers will want to have their rooms painted in flambouyant colors. If you do not plan to sell the home for a while, it is ok for unique color schemes but if you’re selling, try to avoid those.
