Hail Storm and Roofing

After a major hail storm hits, one of the most common practices is to inspect your property to see if there is any hail damage. An important area to look is also on the roofs, here are some tips and what to do after a hail storm.

-Get a professional hail assessment of your roof: while there is a possibility that any hail damage to the roof can be visibility seen from the ground, you are more likely to know if your shingles are damaged by close inspection. Make sure that it is inspected for hail damage and wind damage by a licensed inspector so that there is less chance of an error.

-Be familiar with the signs of roof damage:
Missing shingles
Bruises or dented asphalt shingles
Cracked or broken tile, slate, or concrete shingles
Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts
Leaks in your roof or ceiling
Dents on vents, gutters or flashing

-Make sure you have homeowners insurance- the purpose of homeowners insurance is to protect you against losses to your home’s property value due to damage that is beyond your control. Replacing roofs can be costly so make sure you have homeowners insurance.

-The sooner you can get your roof replaced the better: while it might seem like a good idea to wait on roof repair until more visible, however it is much cheaper to get fix your roof problems when they happen rather than wait until more serious damage occurs
